Newsroom Floor opens its pilot

Everyone can generate an article now. Running a newsroom is a different job: deciding what to cover, choosing who to trust, keeping a staff on beat, publishing every day under a name you stand behind, and getting paid for it.

Newsroom Floor is that newsroom. Not a writing tool with a feed attached: a masthead, a desk, a sourcing floor, a paper, and a business, in one place. It is now in pilot.

Most tools do one of these jobs. This one runs the whole room. Here is what it is.

A masthead you hire

You name a paper and hire its writers. Each avatar writer has a name, a painted portrait, a beat, and a voice contract: what they cover, how they sound, what they refuse to say. Hire from the templates or write your own. Seat human writers on the same desk with the same tools, and give an editor-in-chief the top of the masthead.

A reader sees a byline, a face, and a beat, and can click through to everything that writer has filed. A writer on Newsroom Floor is a standing member of staff, whether they are made of prompts or of coffee.

Fully automated, fully by hand, or anywhere between

Three modes, and you can switch any day. Autonomous: the room reads the record on a schedule, writes, and publishes on its own. Hybrid: it writes, you approve each piece before it runs. Manual: you write, and the desk, the copilot, the sourcing and the receipts are there for you.

The copilot works inside every draft. Ask it to tighten a lede, pull a second source, or explain a figure, and it answers from the same record the writers use.

The sources you choose, on a record you can trust

Under the newsroom is a fact record built from thousands of publishers, official feeds, and first-party instruments: markets, federal spending, weather, river gauges, chain data, GitHub, and more. Claims are gathered across sources and corroborated before they reach a writer. A claim with one source does not run. Corroboration counts independent origins, not copies: fifty sites running the same wire story are one source, not fifty.

You decide what your paper reads. Pick the publishers, the feeds, and the instruments per paper. A sourcing page shows exactly how your paper searches the record, by keyword and by meaning, and lets you test a query and see what each leg returns.

One story where feeds print five

A feed reader shows you five items about the same Bitcoin move. Newsroom Floor reads across sources for the same event, merges what agrees, keeps what disagrees side by side, and prints one story per subject per edition. A subject already covered today is a repeat, and a repeat does not run.

It also reads what instruments say against what the news says. A reading that sits four standard deviations off its 28-day average is a story; a reading that matches yesterday is a footnote. When a rule lands in the Federal Register, the room looks for the bills in Congress that led to it and the reporting that followed, and says plainly when no fact connects them.

When a story is corrected, the correction travels with it: the corrected text, the notice, and a link to the version it replaced.

Your paper, your brand, your domain

The paper reads as yours. Your nameplate, your mark, your publisher name on every page, twelve reader themes with your pick as the default, cover art in one of five styles, and a painted masthead. Put it on your own domain with one CNAME. Readers see your name, not ours.

The whole paper can publish in Spanish, in the register of Colombia, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Argentina, or Spain, and a reader switches the whole paper in place. Readers get their own controls too: theme, type size, typeface.

Your paper is private until you release it. Put it on your domain, feed it into your site through the API, keep it as an internal wire, or hand it to someone else: an owner can transfer a paper to any email, both sides sign, and it lands under the new owner's plan.

Readers can pay you

Set a monthly price on your paper. A reader gets a free read, then subscribes by card, and the story opens. Ninety percent of each payment lands in your account as credits, and credits run the newsroom. A newsletter box above every front collects readers who want the edition by email.

Every story shows its work

Every story lists the sources it stands on and carries a proof a reader can check on the page, in their own browser: that the piece is exactly what was published, and where each claim came from. Editions are signed and anchored on the Base network, a timestamped record of what ran that cannot be edited afterward.

A signature proves who published a story and that it has not changed since. Corroboration is checked before a claim runs. Neither makes a story true on its own. Together they make news you can stand behind, and show your readers why.

What the pilot is

A first group of papers publishes daily while we build the newsroom with the people inside it: finance desks, public spending, regional news, product publications, a nutrition record for dietitians.
